The best time to walk in a city is when it is about to rain.
Or when it’s raining.
As long as it's the type of rain that lands on your clothing and leaves wet marks, but never soaks you through. You know that type of rain? That’s the best type of rain.
I cherish those times. A normally flooded West Side Highway becomes a sanctuary. No one in your way. No faces to look at, or look past, something you learn to do after a few weeks here.
You get the place all to yourself. Ahhhh. Respite from the normal hustle and bustle. Time to breathe. Space to think.
